My buddy has a 1999 Dodge caravan 37 K mile, retro'ed with a ramp and wheel chair accessible. He tells me the thing bottoms out on the passenger sliding door and constantly whacks the sliding door out of alignment so it doesn’t close.

Well, it took me two seconds (with no weight in the vehicle ) to see that the rear leafs are sagging something awful. With the understanding that this was retro'ed with sunken floors, etc which add weight………and with him and his wheelchair, its another 500 lbs ….. not to mentioned any passengers. Something tells me new leafs still won’t do it.

The stock leafs a re single isolated springs that look like they can support less than nothing.
I told him over sized tires would help but he just got new ones.

I have seen active suspension assists for the rear leafs. Air bags might work but I think low maintenance is best for him.

Anyone run across any after market trailer package kits or beefed up leaf spring kits for those minivans? … or another fix? I’ll save him some bucks and fix it but I thought I’d ask the troops for any thoughts and recommendations

Thanks

Try looking for Roadmaster Active Suspension system. Either that or rear air shocks that you can pump up for desired ride height up to 140 psi.

Was it not fitted with air bags when it was fabbed? Is it an IMS RampVan by chance?

Yea, I was thinking: If it was a professional conversion, they should have thought about the suspension...

No it was Rollx? something like that I have to get the vin and talk to them also

Yeah, thats what I said, you think they would beef it up

But you can't believe the sag on the rear leafs...

thanls for all the input......
