Today i changed the Camshaft position sensor to get rid of my check engine light and to hopefully improve my MPG. The old sensor was junk, when i removed it there wasnt much left of it. I installed the new one with no problems. Now i have a dead miss at idle, i didnt mess with the shaft so i dont think i could have screwed up the timing. I also have a nice chirp now, really annoying. Im gonna pull the sensor out tomorrow and grease it. Hopefully that will stop the chirp, but as far as the engine missing i have no clue. Any ideas? Did i do something wrong?

This is on my 97 with a 5.0

Bump! Someone please!

First, try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, let everything reset. I'm thinking your pcm may have been compensating for the bad cps.

I did that twice already, still stumped.

I'm thinking 2 things. Either the cam sensor is not in sync (did you use the synchronizer tool?) or the plug wires weren't re-installed on the coils properly. Or a wire got hurt when working on the cam sensor.

That's 3 things. Kinda.

How do you sync it? Im thinking thats my problem right there! I didnt sync anything, i figured if the shaft didnt move at all it should be the same.

There is a special alignment tool. Did you just pull the old one and drop the new one in? Let me find some pics.

Yeah i did, I figured when it said alignment it ment with the shaft and the gear. I gotta drive it to work tomorrow, hopefully its not to bad and burns a piston up!

The tools are readily available at NAPA.

This is how I align mine with no tool. You just have to find Cylinder #1 TDC.
