Missing when accelerating

I have a 6cyl. 2002 Explorer and recently noticed when starting our quickly and accelerating quickly i feel a missing sensation throughout the vehicle. It feels like it has somehting to do with the axle/driveshaft or possiblly even plugs etc. Tough to tell. When i accelerate gradually it is fine. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? sorry for the dumb question, but i'm a newbie to the site and know little about mechanics etc.
