Can any one tell me about my awd system? 4wd and 4low lights flash 6 times, is it the transfer case motor or could it be worse??

Hi.

What the flashing lights are telling you is that there is a problem that has been detected by the GEM which controls the operation of the 4wd system. The GEM controls the engagement of the transfer case (the clutch in the transfer case that applies power to the front wheels) and the shift motor to change from Hi to Low range. The flashes are also telling you that a code has been set which can be read with an NGS scan tool or a scan tool that can read Ford Enhanced codes. I am posting a list of the 4wd DTC codes so you can see the different possibilities.

as mentioned, the codes are stored in the GEM. Unfortunately, AFAIK, most standard code scanners cannot see the GEM DTCs.

That being said, there are generally three things that cause that problem: the rear axle speed sensor (which probably won't apply to yours as it also feeds the ABS signal and that works fine I assume), or the front and rear Output Shaft Speed Sensors on the transfer case. Without the codes, however, it's a guessing game.
