Just bought my 4th Explorer (pause for applause), and I'm back to a model with the tissue holder in the center console. I've always been confused by the design of this console, the tissue holder's main purpose seems to be to put tissue dust all over the place, and then there's the two trays at the very front -- what is supposed to fit in those things? Anyway, my focus right now is the tissue holder.

I have a Nomad Xtra MP3 player that connects to my Alpine deck, and I need a place to store it in the truck. It connects via wire, so it would be nice to be able to channel the wire there too. I'm thinking that I could modify the tissue holder area to do this. Maybe put some kind of hinge on the outer plastic shell, or fab something totally different. Any ideas here? Has anyone done something like this before?

I would appreciate any suggestions, and if anyone has pics of some interior modifications that would be great.

Thanks,
Blue

I know there have been quite a few people who have modified their consoles and tissue holder for different purposes. Some as a holster, others for lights, and even switches. I know a search should yield some results of ways people have modified it. A person I knew once made a wood face plate and mounted his mp3 player in his BMW. Something similar I'm sure could be done in one of the little storage bins, or even the tissue holder.

My tissue holder is now my new housing for the Xbox controller plugs. :p (Controllers in glovebox)

It would look real nice if you could flush mount an MP3 player into a bracket in there, glassed. The possibilities are endless. ;)
