Air shocks are a joke period. IMO they are not worth the box they come in.

appreciate it.

Not exactly, the Monroe Max-Air shocks that are adjustable are the bomb, smooth well controlled ride in the rear, and solved the sag by inflating the right rear side a little more. Rides a hell of a lot better then doing an aal or other fixes to the rear to solve sag.

Those are actually the ones I am talking about, how do you think they would be ok with a lowered explorer?

Not a fan. Your shock mounts are not designed to carry the weight of the vehicle, they're designed to carry the loads incurred by damping the motion of the suspension/vehicle. Transferring the weight onto them really isn't what the mounts are designed for. The springs are there to carry the weight, and the shocks are there to damp the motion.

I don't know about lowered vehicles but on normal height theres no problem. Install rear shocks, and its always going to raise the sag somewhat. I had Reflexes in the rear and they raised it so that will put force on the mounts. Adjusted the Max-Air for about an extra inch and a half to make it level on the driver side. Their plenty fine for normal use. I just went that way as I've been in trucks with short and long aal's, shackles etc to help with sag and they rode noticeably harsher/uncomfortable in the rear, annoying as heck on the highway. Plus needed new shocks anyway lol.

I used air shocks on mine when I towed, but had issues when it got real cold in the winter, the air would leak out of the fittings...I went with Monroe load handling shocks, the ones with the spring on the outside...stiffened up the ride nice, and didn't allow the back to sag with weight.

FWIW

well.. this is becoming harder to find a way to ensure I don't bottom out. I have not heard of anyone who has used the nitro slammers at custom rate or even regular nitro slammers. I know the stocks won't handle a 3" drop, just want to invest once get it installed and take it easy on bumps. this is tougher then I first thought. anyone with those shocks?
