not sure on the hp... prolly somewhere near 200

to add hp get new exhaust... flowmaster, borla, gibson, magnaflow etc

and a new k&n intake assembly and filter. those are two easy and effective ways to add power

you have about 160-165HP

easiest upgrades: intake(KKM) and exhaust

Robb

and 225lb-ft of torque.

What they said will work, exhaust and intake are noticeable mods for little money.

Here are my opinions on intake and exhaust, and since I'm posting this here, I won't post it in your recent exhaust thread:

filter/catback easy yes.. effective? no.. most people dont notice any signifigant changes from these mods, if any.

However.. if you are planning on doing bigger/better things in the future, these are sort of ground breakers that really aught to be done 1st.. so I agree they are the 1st things that should be done.

may also want to consider headers and just try to get a complete less restrictive exhaust system, it will cost a good bit more, but I think it'd be worth it. Wish I woulda done it..

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with Darkfox. The OHV motor responds very well in most cases to intake and exhaust mods. Not only is power improved, but throttle response is much improved as well. As for headers, I do not think they benefit most OHV owners; but they are good for the 5.0.

Alec is right, the fastest I can run our 5.0 Mounty at the track is a 16.2, my friend ran basically the same exact time in his stock 5.0 Explorer, after adding an intake and dual cat-back with 2.5" piping, he ran a 15.8 which is very noticeable when racing at the track.

You'll get a little better mpg, and definitley better response and power.

Adding an intake and flowmaster exhaust to our 94' dropped my 0-60 time from 10.5 on gtec (which is exactly what it should run stock), to about 9.9 seconds which is very noticeable on the 4.0 ohv considering it's a dog in stock form. And I picked up about 1-2mpg in the city.

I totally disagree with this statement; quite the contrary, most see nice results.

well as an owner of a flowmaster 50 catback and a kkm filter, I saw no gains that were worth talking about, if any.

I may be wrong, I mean I dont know your particular engine, but I still consider these longterm "ground breaker" mods that only offer their best when modified further

Darkfox, I'm gonna say it again; your truck is not normal! So you can't base opinions on performance mods on your experiences with your truck. I'm sorry.

So true. Further, when you make such statements, you might want to quallify it by saying its your opinion. Some new member might actually belive you.

ok, well next time I'll sayt its my opinion..

dont want to confuse anyone..

lol:confused:

I didn't want to start another argument.. so I figured I'd agree for a change.. you know what I think.. to me they're facts.. but I haven't seen the exact same mods on the exact same engine anywhere else so.. I guess I can't be 100% sure. however I know theres nothing wrong with my car.. at least.. I dont think so.. anyone got a pic of what our plugs are supposed to look like? I took my plugs out a while back and I remember the gap being very large in comparison to all our GM vehicles.

Wait, you know there is nothing wrong with your car....

Why do you have a LEMONeer then?

If there is nada wrong with the car... could it be the driver? Seriously, have you ever driven a fast car? Have you let others weho know what they are doing drive yours?

to humor the people that tell me theres something wrong. they used to tell me its just a lemon.

I dont know how it could be the driver, as saleen has said before, with an auto.. how can you mess it up? I am a bit of a doofus sometimes so I suppose its possible.

my truck is probablly one of the faster vehicles I've driven, short of the 99 I tested which felt faster. I've driven focus's saturns sunfires, neons an 86 chevy truck a 57 belair 96 towncar 71 c10 65 chevelle a 94 chevy c1500 a ford F150 (97 lariat Xtended cab) a 98 4.0 X, an 81 bonneville, a 98 grand marquis, a 96 limited X 5.0 (very short distance on that one) and ridden in a 93 Z71 Short box, 93 corrolla, 90 century, 80 lemans , 02 S-10

most of them, with the exception of a few seem much faster than my truck just with general driving. I haven't really opened up any of the other vehicles mentioned.

The factory gap on the 4.0 plugs is .52-.56 this can be lowered on a stock ignition system to .48-.52 and a SMALL increase in throttle responce might be felt.

Like everyone on here states, start with the intake and TB then move to the Cat-back exhaust system. Don't worry with headers until you need them, until you get un-naturally aspirated.

Later Doug904.

lol, you remembered:) . I really cannot figure out what is causing yours to act weird. Gotta be either the engine or trans as everything else seems fine.

Auto- floor it and go, or brake torque it and go for the fastest time and burn some rubber in 1st;)

I'd love for you to ride in ours, then you'll see how powerful they are stock when running correctly. 16.2 in the quarter at about 84-85 mph with a torque launch.

I do know that my grandmothers towncar will spank both of our trucks, it's pretty f'n fast and really not that much slower than a Caddy with a Northstar engine. Gives you a sweet shove to the seat when you floor it - gotta love the 4.6, of course they have some stuff done to it though:p

soory for a little of topic:)
