faster? man you're cars are so backwards from ours lol

the towncar in our family (96 cartier with the 4.6L dual exhaust v8) is also on its 2nd transmission. .this car.. is UNBELEIVABLLY slow.. (and you wouldn't beleive how many people treat you differently when you're in an "old person" car.. ) if I pull out and hold my foot on the town cars gas, it revs a bit.. totally lets off. .then continues to rev normal.. its very bad for pulling out into traffic.. since its not my car, I rarley say anything about it, but I think its 2nd tranny is gone.

guess who replaced it?? the same guys that rebuilt my mounty's

I dont know how it could be the driver,

Very easy, if the driver is clueless. If you really don't know what to expect, it might appear to be slow to you. Let someone in the know drive it.

do mechanics count? I had 2 different mechanics at my dealer drive it on 2 seperate occasions, I had 2 free lance engine/exhaust shops drive it and 1 transmission shop drive it.. everyone said it "felt fine" except the transmission guy.. who told me "I have a v6 explorer back there right now with transmission problems that could leave this thing in the dust"

all the shops that drove it, aside from the tranny guy.. never topped 50, this guy actually DROVE it.. he was easy.. he was hard.. he'd slow down.. and gun it.. he'd cruise.. he gave it a good run, and was much more professioanl than the others. I trust what he says more than the others, even tho the others knew more about the vehicle in general.. this guy was jut testing drivabiltiy I'd say

I would say that's your answer right there, he is the only guy that actually DROVE your car, and he said there is something wrong with it. As far as the Ford dealers or whatever, my 10 year old sister could tell me what was wrong with my EX before they could/would.

Most people would just hop in, cruise around at 45mph and call it ok, the only way to tell is to drive it, like you said.

. . .I do know that my grandmothers towncar will spank both of our trucks, it's pretty f'n fast and really not that much slower than a Caddy with a Northstar engine. Gives you a sweet shove to the seat when you floor it - gotta love the 4.6, of course they have some stuff done to it though:p

soory for a little of topic:)

Man, she would have to have some serious mods in her Towncar. Either that or Ford improved them quite a bit since the 4.6L they instaled in my '95 T-bird. The best that thing ran in the 1/4 was 16.383. Even that times was about .3 seconds quicker than the C&D tested time of the same year during a comparison gainst the Monte Carlo.

My grandfather has a k&N cold air intake, new wires and plugs, and dual Magnaflow exhaust. They had flows on it, but he didn't know there we're different series and the shop ended up putting on dual 40 series, it was just a little too loud and resonating for him (I liked it though), so he removed them for Magnaflows which have no resonance what-so-ever. Our dealer had different air-bags for the suspension put on that get rid of the floaty ride, but it still a dream on the highway. Our dealership happenes to be real cool about mods, cause a lot of Mustangs and Cobras come to ours along with a lot of lightnings cause the Ford dealers are dicks about modding, yet our Lincoln/Mercury dealer could care less.

I cranked off 15.73 in the quarter at 87.8* mph and 0-60 at 7.6 seconds on g-tec. Pretty quick when considering it's a heavy car. Stock, it was quick enough to take my friends V6 Accord and stay about a car length a head of him. I had some guy in a Sebring race me in it and I wasted him, he drove by and gave me the thumb up sign lol. Some kid in a Corolla kept grilling me like I was some punk to be driving this car, he took off at the light and then I floored it after (didn't know he was gonna do that), caught right up to him and flew by.

The newer ones like the 97+ and up (especially 03's) gained a lot of weight and are slower even though they have more power. She bought it new in 95' and it only has 30,000 miles on it, she won't get rid off it and my grandfather wanted to get her the new SL55 AMG, nope, she doen't care, I'm like:confused: . I'm trying to talk her into the new Marauder and she does like them also so.....hopefully....that way I'll be borrowing it all the time lol. Their mad cool, only grandparents I know that floor it all the time, she even tried racing a Porsche Boxster before when I was in it a few years ago, of course we got seriously burned but oh well.

EDIT- you know whats pretty funny, when I have friends over and they hear what sounds like a Mustang pull into our driveway...and all they see is a silver Towncar...and they just like don't even say anything and just stare at it like "hows it makin all that noise"

EDIT again - their comming over tonight so I'll borrow my neighbors g-tec and see what I get.;)

AHA! so the towncar does have mods! lol well not really, but its more than my parents car has.

boy a towncar with flowmasters musta sounded unusual.. you dont see a lot of loud ones.

just got back from christmas shopping.. traffic is gettin pretty bad out there..

heh, it was loud and aggressive, but more in a Mustang way, it didn't really befit the car's image know what I mean and it resonated pretty badly. The Magnaflows on the other hand sound a lot smoother with nice, deep exotic growl with no resonance at all.

Still trying to talk her into the Marauder, I'd borrow it every night, hehe.

I can't believe she didn't care for the SL-55 AMG when my grandfather asked her if she liked/wanted one, I wish I had that car, or any AMG version at all. I rode in a kids E-55 last year at school, holy crap did that car pin you to the seat and sounded bad as hell, it had hella torque lol. Even the new CL-600 has a twin turbo V12 now, Mercedes is doing good in my book.

You need to bring your truck down to our dealership so they can run a real diagnostic test on it instead of whatever your dealer does lol. That mechanic even said that V6 Explorer would dust yours, thats gotta suck to have a Mounty with a 5.0 run that slow, the difference between yours and ours is like the difference between a Mustang GT and a V6 Mustang:confused:

well my ford dealer refuses to give me a printout on my ODB II, but if yall know what all the #s mean.. I did get one of the 3 shops to give me a printout, after telling me nothing was wrong.. I can scan if ya want.. course being a 5.0 readout, it wont help this thread at all to keep talking about me, I told ya I didn't want to start an argument lol

Darkfox,
Please scan the printout or list the codes in a new thread with your exact problems. Let us see if we can help you out in one single thread instead of spreading it all over multiple threads.
Maybe we can help nip it in the bud,
Robb

yea, I was just talking to saleen about that.. I did NOT mean to take this thread on a rollercoaster ride.. sorry guys!

I'll post a new thread with my dyno sheets and ODB scan.
