IM looking to make my 03 sport trac louder. What is ther best way to do it instead of bypassing the cats. I need it to pass inspection and i dont want my o2 sensors to go haywire and give me a check engine light issue. any ideas.

Just take the muffler off and run straight pipe from the cat to the back. If you don't want it quite that loud then use a glasspack or better yet, one of my secret applications, a 1979 Z-28 Camaro resonator. It looks like a muffler...but it doesn't sound like a muffler. :D

So, you have your Gibson system and the resonator, whats the order installed?

I don't have a resonator. What I meant was to use the Z-28 resonator instead of a muffler. I put a pair of those on a Blazer once after I installed headers and it crackled like a top fueler.

Ok, my hugest petpeive is doing something half-assed to make something sound loud. If you want to do it correct but its not to easy on the books do what I did:

JBA Headers which are 50 state smog legal, and a Spintech Sportsman Street XL with a 3" inlet and 2.5" Dual out shotgunned over the axle and turned down. It was so loud with the headers that I actually had to go back to stock manifolds.

This is a 100% Smog Legal as well as DOT legal setup :D

Just my .02

Also there is a company called Random Technology that makes a Y-pipe for Sport Tracs that eliminates the pre-cats below the exhaust manifolds, the main cat stays, and I am told the truck will remain emissions legal with this setup. It'll be noisier and pick up some hp and mpg in the bargain.

Or you could go to a muffler shop get the flowmaster super 44 dual exhaust i have it on my 02 with 4 inch black tips

I installed the Trush welded, not satisfied with the results and I want to install the flowmaster super 44 dual exhaust later on I know that one makes a big improvement.

I didn't remove the cat. What I'm saying is to run straight pipe from behind the cat all the way out the back.

I would love to hear how that sounds JohnnyO.

Based on the couple times I've had the exhaust system fall off of a 6 cylinder vehicle, I'd say it sounds like an outboard motor at best. IMO a tuned muffler makes a 6 sound better. OP just said he wanted it loud, he didn't say he wanted it to sound good. But that's a matter of personal taste.

Hey, I just work here. :salute:

OK, I got you.
