I was down at the hardware store tonight looking at speaker wire. I came across a 250 foot role of speaker wire for only 20 dollars. My question is will it work for car audio use? The label said it was outdoor underground and in wall speaker wire. It was i think 18 guage wire in a nice thick insulation but its really flexable. IT said it is sheilded and has low noise something or other. It looks like regular speaker wire just hads thicker insulation so will this work in my truck? thanks for your help.

If you are going to go through the trouble of running all new speaker wire in your truck, I would probably go with something like 14ga.

Stock wire size is probably 18ga., so you'll probably want something bigger.

I think it was actually 16 guage wire. So if they do have a bigger gauge wire I should be ok with kind of wire?

16 gauge is plenty fine for wiring up your door speakers. I personally wouldnt go smaller though.

I dont see a problem. Outdoor speaker wire just has thicker insulation to bear the weather.
