Ok, I am finally taking the Memorial Day weekend to do the torsion twist. I just have some final questions. . .
-Cant I just use a socket wrench to do it instead of the special tool?
-Do I have to remove the protection plate, or can I go through the hole in it?
-Do I measure from the top of the wheel well to the groud, or is there another way?
-Can I adjust the to different lengths (beacuse of the driverside sag)?

As always, thanks for all the help

yes to all the above

The 2nd one, no you dont have to remove the plate, YES you can go right through the hole....

It took me about 10 minutes to do mine.

This can be done when it's sitting on the ground, right? Does it need to be jacked up? I'm getting ready to do mine as soon as my shackles arrive.

it can be done on the groung, but the bolts will be harder to turn. You WILL need a breaker-bar of some sort.

I did mine while sitting on the ground. I used one of those huge sockets thats have "foot pounds" on it. It made it really easy since that thing is like 3 feet long!!

remember to recheck the heights after a few miles or a few days, and get an alignment soon.

Ah very valid point my young son ;) You will more than likely need to adjust the camber.

I did mine on the ground without the breaker bar and only a 3/8 wrench. 13mm I think?

Did any of you have to replace the adjuster bolt to get the full 2" of lift?

Thing is, you might not get 2". Every torsion bar and bolt, as well as factory height is different. Some get more, some get less.

Thanks for all the help.

Another question about the bolt, can it be found at a local Ace Hardware or a place like that, I would love to avoid the Dealership.

If you look in the useful threads forum you will see in the "How to put a Body Lift on a 1997 Explorer" thread how the poster also ran out of bolt travel before getting the maximum lift. He replaced the bolt from a metric bolt supply company. Not sure where to find such a company. Some can get the 2" with the stock bolts and some cannot. My drivers side is not as high as my passenger side, I'd like for them to be level at around 18-20 degree CV angle for about 1.75+" of lift.

Does anyone have the part # for a reaplacement bolt for the torsion twist? you know, the bolt that has the thread lock on it. Ive been looking every where and cant find it. the guy at ford gave me a # but its not wright. thanks

I'll post the specs I got from Ford tomorrow. To get a bolt strong enough I imagine you'll have to find a place that supplies industrial strength bolts. I haven't gotten that far yet.

Here are the torsion bar adjustment bolt specs I got from Ford: M12 x 1.75 x 63.5

Also, the bolt has 10.9 on the head which I think denotes the grade of steel.
