well the mounty is not running to its fullest, its a 98 RWD with a V8 and lately been having issues with the tranny, actually very shortly after i changed to oil like i do every 1.5K. when i start the car everything is fine, but if i start to accelerate the O/D starts flashing meaning a transmission failure. i shift into neutral shut the car off, then start it again and all is good for 5 minutes then it happens again. after about the third times it stops unless i put any strain on the tranny by accelerating at and somewhat fast pace then it starts flashing again. is it the PCM going bad? could it be because of the cold weather? (45 degrees and it only really gets 30 secs to warm up. it stays outside under a cover) the trick has 96k and has been very well maintained.

i've only put 4K miles on the thing and i love it except the ride makes me feel like im driving through the grand canyon. are they very reliable? i hear they are often called "exploders" for a reason.

OD light flashing means the tranny isn't happy. Get the codes pulled. Shouldn't matter if it's 45 degrees or 45 below zero.

Codes show up clean. By the light consistently starts flashing when it hits 3k RPM now.

You pulled the codes on the tranny, specifically? You won't see them in the ECM, and you need an upper level reader (something on the order of a Snap-On reader) to read them.

I took it to the dealer tO get the codes pulled. Where can I get a snap on reader and for how much?

Unless you're going to do this for a living, you don't want one....several thousand dollars new. Take it to a tranny shop.
