Weird thing on my 2000 Mounty V8 2WD: The LEFT side front AND rear brakes have always produced more dust than the right side. At a recent tire rotation, I see why: The pads on the left side have more wear! The brakes work fine, no pulling or other funny business. Wear on the inner/outer pads is even for each wheel, and each wheel seems to spin with the same ease as the others.

Anyone else see this in their Explorer/Mounty?

I drive alone mostly, and the battery and gas tank are on the left side of the car. Does more weight equal more wear?

I seriously doubt the weight is a factor. Nearly every truck I have owned in the last 30 years has had the fuel tank on the driver side, without any adverse wear on the L/side brakes. My 96 Ex does not show any excessive brake dust on either side.

Maybe there is some air in the passenger side.

It shouldn't be a lot more, but the left wearing faster than the front isn't abnormal. Bleed your brakes, turn your rotors and replace your pads, see if the problem persists
