I've had some problems with people messing with my Explorer lately. For example, about two weeks ago someone keyed my drivers side door. Then today I go out to go to school and I see that someone slashed one of my tires. I thought about going to an audio place and getting the most sensitive alarm they have, but that just isn't practicle. Here's my idea:

At Home Depot, Lowes, etc. they have flood lights that have motion sensors on them. They turn on when the light detects motion within a certain length. SO, what if I placed them in the back of my Ex, and if someone gets say 2 feet from it, the lights would come on. It would be relatively easy to do and would be effective in my opinion. What are your guy's thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea to me. What are the specs on the lights you're looking at? As long as they don't draw too much power and you can engineer them to operate on 12 VDC instead of 120 VAC, I think it would work well.

Well, the power is a little bit of an issue. But, I was thinking about running the lights off of a couple of those big flashlight batteries (You know, the big square ones). Or, maybe even getting a seperate battery.

Two of these suckers would be PERFECT!

Flood Lights? Is that practical? How about setting up the motion detectors to make your lights turn on, on your car? Or make the horn honk? Flood lights seem too impractical to me. I know of someone who has a porsche and if you get within 2 feet of it the car says,"your are too close to the vechle please step away from the vehichle" or something to that effect. Just some suggestions.

Whoever the perp doing these dastardly deeds is apparantly not stealing anything, they are just harassing you.

More than likely if you have lights turn on via motion, it will p them off and they will put a brick through your window.

What did you do to cause this harassment?

I dunno why kids have to be so jelous....it just is beyond me that people would do stuff like that...

The only bad part is what if he sees the lights (or it detects him once) and he comes from the side.... My Supra had a good alarm on it, if you got within 2 feet it started chirping... if they go closer it would get louder and say "you are too close" and if they didnt leave it went off yelling "intruder"

Especially when your car has a few visual mods, then i have noticed people like to come after it more. :( I would find better spot to park. I took off these 2 big stickers on my truck because i didnt want chevy lovers to come after it. now the only real visual thing that i did was the speed grille

I saw something on Ebay once that I would have bought, (just to try it out) if my wife hadn't told me no (yeah yeah yeah, but hey I live with her) It was a motion senstive dig camera that mounted inside the vehicle and sent images to a lock box in the trunk. I could hold something like 100 images and had a starlite like ability for evening. Then you could just get a pic of the jerk and show the authorities or let some big Italian fellows with ball bats have a discussion with him :D

If you want motion detectors still, then I have an idea...

I'm sure you everyone has seen all of those pop up adds for x10.com and all of their camera's and motion detectors actually operate off 12 volts. Those motion detectors are fairly small and you could easily rig them up to send a signal to turn on your lights, honk your horn or something like that. They come with a power adapter for house current, but they actually take 12v input.

They do make car alarms with motion sensors. I have one on mine. There are two "bubbles" one for the interion and on for the exterior. It is a very small box you mount in the center of the vehicle. I will give a warning when the outter bubble is broken and will go off if contunious motion is present. Then the inner bubble will sound the alarm instantly if broken. So you can leave your windows down and it will go off if someone sticks their arm in. DEI (viper, clifford, python, ect...) makes them.

You could also use a video camera to catch the person on tape and then make them pay for everything.

what are the average prices for motion detection alarms??????? ive also seen alpine motion detection systems
