If I floor my gas pedal, the explorer kinda boggs down, and doesnt accelerate that fast. Why would it do this? If you gas it slower, it goes fine. But since its like this I cant catch a wheel in ANY gear. or maybe explorers cant anyway, but any help is great thanks.

Check your MAF sensor. I get that problem every now and then and a simple cleaning of it seems to do the trick. I just did it the other day and all is fine now. Check out the explorer tips for more info. :)

aight thanks man. I cleaned it once, like 3k ago, but i dunno if i did it right. Do I just spray the 02 safe cleaner on it or rub it or what.

NO!!!!!

Just remove the sensor and you'll see two little "prongs" that stick up. Spray that with a O2 safe spray. I myself use Carb Cleaner that works fine. DO NOT TOUCH THE PRONGS. This could damage them and you'll pay big time. Just spray them and then let them dry in the air. Then reinstall. :)

aight im just gonna clean my throttle body & maf tomorrow

hy

well I cleaned it, but it didnt help really much. Any other ideas? My friends navajo doesnt do this.

Bet you anything its your plug wires

I got the same trouble with mine. When I gas it to pass someone, it jumps out of overdrive like it's gonna go, but it bogs a bit and accelerates slowly. I cleaned the MAS less than 5000 miles (about 2 months) ago and I changed the plug wires abdut 25000 miles (2 years) ago. How long should plug wires last?

Have you changed or cleaned your air filter lately?, Start with the cheaper things first. Air filter, PC valve, Plugs and Wires.

Hey, I just got a KKM and it did it before I got that, so I know its not the air filter, but Im gonna clean that today. I will also try cleaning my throttle body. As for the PC valve, Plugs and Wires, what is the PC valve? I will replace that if its cheap. And the plugs and wires. I think Im gonna have to do that soon I dont want to though. What kinda can I get for the best price? I see all three right side spark plugs, but how can I get to the left ones.

boatsrcool,
The PCV valve is located on the top of the drivers-side vakve cover. It costs about 4 bucks and is also the culprit if youare losing oil into thin air. It sound to me like a lack of air or fuel. Since you don't think it's air, it could be a clogged fuel filter. Have you run a code-checker yet?

Jon

Hey, it could be a fuel filter. I have not run a code, I just replaced the 02 and FPR. I have a code reader, but I cant seem to get it to give me right codes, that or I just cant figure it out.

Since you don't think it's air, it could be a clogged fuel filter

Now that you mention it, it might be the fuel filter. I haven't changed that in about two years too. Would O2 sensors cause this bogging?? I don't think mine have ever been changed.

I don't think the fuel filter gives any codes. ?? I don't think there is a circuit on it. Someone told me to change the fuel filter every 20,000 miles but Ford says "don't replace unless it is clogged". My guess is, if it's not old plug wires, then it's fuel sys related like the filter or FPR.

I don't think bad O2s can cause a bogging down but you never know. I think more likely bad O2s will cause a poor air/fuel mixture which can lead to pinging and plug fouling (if lean) or poor mileage and plug fouling (if rich).

how hard is a fuel filter to replace, and wheres it at.

actually, today I floored it, and it didnt do it. I guess the mas had to dry more over night. Then I cleaned the throttle body, and reoiled my KKM, and now she puuuurrssss.

Yeah that didnt sound like a fuel filter, especially since they dont go that often on X's..Id still look into new wires if yours are stock...You wont belive the differance...plugs too...Before I chnged my wires, I'd floor it and it would bog a litle than go...After I changed em I could chirp my 31's with little effort, way more bottom end with good aftermarket wires

well it did it alittle today bogged. but not as much, and it was real cold when i did it.

Ok try this...

Turn on the engine.... take a look at it, maybe it does a little abnormal "side to side" movement...it will be like dancing, this is what we don't want....
Now, go to the MAF sensor... just next to the air filter... in your case is a KKM (I'm actually almost stock) you will see some cables plug into it...Ok this is the moment of the true....
UNPLUG IT!!!
The engine will accelerate for about 2 or 3 seconds, (this is because you just unplugged the sensor, now it doesn't now wich is the amount of air that is coming in...) then it will be back to normal, and you will realize that the engine stops HIS dance... if it doesn't... well is not the sensor....
Go and get your cables, fuel filter, or spark plugs, I'm actually just about to clean it, but today a "Ford guy" told me that he will do it for me, for free, as I don't have the T-20 security screwdriver, I can't do it by myself....

Hope this could help you.....
