that's illegal in the states... plus its noise pollution.

Well replace it, I guess. I have heard that it tends to plug up.

are you sure its illegal? or do people with straight pipes still have cats. dont worry im not gonna take them off matt.

Always leave the cat on...It doesnt help anything to take them off..You can still run a straight pipe with them on(that what I did) Theres really no need, and no it is not a state law(in florida atleast), but it is a federal law.

Anybody ever get that engine bogging to stop?? I just changed my transmission fluid (it was clean!) and my fuel filter (it was dirty!) and the engine still bogs when I floor it. It's like it won't make the transmission downshift and GO! I changed my plugs and wires about 30K miles ago. How often should the plugs and wires be changed??

Bogging/slow accel

I have this issue in my 94, though its not so much a bog as a crummy accel.......

When I had my tranny blow on vacation last year, the AAMCO guy that did it said he also had an Explorer of that year and that mine was sluggish compared to his..he recommended getting the two cats changed.......

....I went to a Monro muffler to inquire.....ch-CHING! Big bucks!

I may try Meineke............

But its been a year and aside from the somewhat crappy acceleration, no problems.......

I am used to driving my VT1100c motorcycle and my V8 Dakota, so I *may* just be comparing and the Explorer is losing...I dunno.....I would need to drive someone elses Explorer to be sure.....

:)

well i have a new cat back exhaust system... couple months old.... and i havent replaced my cats latly. that may be a good idea.

Ever get that bogging fixed?

Is your AC on when it does this bogging? Mine will sorta do the same thing, I really have to get on it to get going, but if I turn the AC off it will take off really fast and smooth. Maybe it is always like that, but with drivers ed, going from a Neon to an Explorer is a big difference, and I odnt notice it that much anymore, but having the AC on or off can make a difference....

grant - nah the a/c wasnt on. i have to like be going highway speeds for my a/c to even work LOL. like im scared freon will come through the vents or something. it happened when it was idleing. anyway, it hasnt been started in a week, and i drove it around, but again, i cant catch a wheel going straight, and it wont bogg if im moving fast foward, i think b/c of my cold air intake (ghetto)
