has anyone used the ngk plugs and had good results with them? i ask because im wanting a better plug to boost my gas mileage and i was goin to get the e3 diamond fires but i was told no to to get the ngks any opinions please help
If it did, it wasn't by much. I average around 13 - 15 MPG depending on how I drive it regardless of what plugs or brand of fuel I use. Spark plugs aren't going to make much of a difference in fuel mileage anyway if your current plugs are in good shape to begin with. You might get a more efficient combustion process in the cylinder, but you aren't going to gain 5MPG or anything just by switching plugs.
Go elsewhere to save gas. Your driving a 93 explorer. Your not going to magically gain MPG with spark plugs.
Standard MC or auto-lite platinum plugs are your best bets.
The "best" plug for the 4.0L OHV seems to be the Motorcraft Platinum.
Iridiums will last longer, but you won't get any mileage increase. The advantage iridium plugs had used to be the smaller electrode design which gave better performance, but this has trickled down and now most Platinum plugs, including the current MC for the OHV, use this design.
I would advise you to stay away from gimmicks like special spark plugs with fancy names, they typically work worse than OE replacements despite their higher price.
If you want to boost mileage, be sure your engine is in good running condition, with a clean MAF sensor, air filter, possibly look into a catback exhaust, and monitor the tire pressure. After that it's typically driving habits that make the largest difference.

Though, I would add, iridium plugs also do not foul under nitrous the way platinum plugs do. Not important for the purposes of this discussion, but just saying.

Neither one of those plugs are recommended for NOS.i run ngk TR6 gapped .030-.040. One step colder and less gap, basic plug though.NGK all day!!but for this discussion i would just say save your money on all that expensive crap and run basic ngk TR55!! Like a $1 a plug
Autolite copper core working great for me... this guy at Orielly really didn't want to sell them to me. I left my pile of parts on the counter and went to Napa instead. I still shop Orielly for their prices, but now I order online and just walk in and pick up my box. No up-selling, I get exactly what I want.
I change my plugs often. When the X was a DD it was once a year (every 30k miles). That would give me a chance to see what else had happened under the hood.
I'm still changing them every year even though 1 year is is only about 5k miles. Its still an excuse to check what else needs work..
Ngks are more efficient then MCs or autolites or e3s. Throw some ngks in and measure your average gas mileage over a month ill bet itll be better the motocrap or autolies or DE3Z n*ts lmfao. As long as you maintain a constant driving style. Also try runnin 89 octane instead of 87 the extra money for 89 might pay for itself in fuel mileage efficiency granted you maintain a nice driving style.
