Hi Folks,

I'm having trouble getting texting to work in my new Explorer. I have a Motorola RAZR MAXX and everything works fine with MFT except texting. I've tried unpairing/pairing and get the android popup requesting access to MAP profile which I allow. However, when I send a text MFT says it was sent successfully but is never received by the recipient. I also get no notification when a message is received. Any ideas out there?

Texting with Razer maxx - (not sure if it sent) but it worked before Ice Cream Sandwich update with regards to MFT reading message. Once I got the ICS update, MFT no longer reads text message to me.

Same here, same phone (two of them including the wife's). I have searched lots of forums for solutions. Ford says it is a Motorola problem with the ICS upgrade. I tend to agree, namely because it worked before on Gingerbread and my Blackberry still works. Verizon and Motorola haven't acknowledged it from what I have seen, but did read a couple of posts hinting that they know there is a problem with the MAP profile.

Hi, everyone!

ICS has taken this functionality away for a lot of Android phones. I've tested a RAZR MAXX with ICS on MFT and have found no way to get texting back.

I have a razr maxx with ics and it reads every one of my texts. My wife has just a Razr and hers doesnt work.

One difference is that I am rooted and had to do the ics upgrade manually with an app through my computer but Im running the stock rom.

Maybe you have something else turned on, off, or even installed on your phone, blwnsmoke?

Nope, not really a downloader.. have 5 or 6 apps I've downloaded (bank, restaurants etc) but nothing else.. Not sure what the difference is except that like I said, my phone is rooted and I had to install the ICS update manually through a developers program. Not sure if there are any other changes inside of the app..

I'll root my wife's phone in the next few days and try it out and see if it starts working and will post back.

Has Ford reached out to Motorola/Google/Verizon about this?

That I'm not sure about, Flying68. I have reported it to my superiors though.

The problem is that Android itself doesn't support MAP which is why most Android phones don't work. On the RAZR, the Motoblur UI sitting on top of Android (I'm guessing the custom messaging app) did support MAP, at least in Gingerbread. The ICS update may have removed or broke it in some phones. Its may be possible that a custom ICS ROM could have MAP working if it carried over from Gingerbread.

I'm hoping someone will add MAP support to the Nexus, so far no bueno.

I have been running ICS on my Razr Maxx since it was officially released through Verizon, I did have several issues with MFT loss of text messages, not being able to disconnect a call without turning off Bluetooth or restarting the phone. I backed up all my apps, and did a factory reset, removed the pairing in MFT and set everything back up. Since then everything has be working great, I get text messages, and no issues ending calls. You might want to give that a try. I did notice that when I re-paired the phone it did put a notification icon to allow access to the text messages.
Hope this helps.

Factory Reset

Unfortunately, I already tried a factory reset and it didn't help. The odd thing is that I do get the notification to allow use of MAP but it still doesn't work.

I did the reset on my wife's RAZR and it worked, yay for her I guess.

Well I did a factory reset on my razr maxx and reconnected it to sync this morning and I am happy to report that I can now receive and send text messages through MFT. Only complaint is that when I did a test send I used the stock OK reply and it arrived and read "OKThis SMS was sent from my Ford." There was no space between the OK and This. Other than that it was alright.

Now I guess I have to do a reset on the wife's phone.
