Mountaineer Grill Question-

does anyone know if the mercury logo on a 1998 mountaineer grill can be removed? also- can the vertical lined section (the middle) of the grill be replaced with "speedgrille"? thanks!

I don't think that the medalion will come out? I'm pretty sure that most replacement grills will fit, though.

Take a look at the Mountaineer grille:

Then look at the Explorer grille:

Notice the difference in the shape of the opening in the middle. I would venture to guess that any grille insert made for the Explorer would not fit the Moutaineer. And if it did, you would probably have to cut all those vertical bars out to make it fit.

but i understand that the center and headlight portions of the grill are different in shape from the explorer. what i am asking is if anyone knows if any manufacturer makes speedgrille or somehting similar that is mountaineer specific. thanks again.

It still looks to me that with a little modifications the Mountaineer lights would fit in an X if flipped upside-down. I got a feeling that they were going to origonally introduce them in the 99 X too, but decided not to in order to diferenciate the models. Just my opinion anyway.

Does anyone have a 99 or latter Mountaineer and willing to take measurments of the lights for me?
