2002 Mercury Mountaineer
Hey guys, completely new here and I have a 2002 mountaineer that I'm gonna get back up and going. It's completely bone stock and was wondering the best route to go on performance mods... Thanks!

What motor do you have?

Generally speaking, whatever fits on a SOHC 4.6L for the mustang will fit on your motor. You will want to double check before you buy and install anything. Relatively speaking the SOHC 4.6 wasn't the greatest performance motor. It's good for the application in the Explorers/Mountaineers and Crown Vics. I would throw on an intake and exhaust and call it a day.

It's all relative to what is done. Putting a tune on a stock motor might give you a couple hp. Intake and exhaust will help your motor breath easier making a small amount of power, maybe 5-10% on a good day. A tune on that would help a little but not a lot. Now if you put in a set of cams, fuel and ignition upgrades, yes I would recommend a tune. What is your overall goal that you are trying to achieve?

Trying to get a little get up and go but nothing to drastic. I think I'll do intake exhaust and a tune and leave it.
