Changed the plugs in my 99 5.0 Mounty today, ran across two plugs, passenger side bank, closest to the firewall that had oil on the ceramic side of the threads. No oil, gunk or anything was evident on the business end of the plug and no evidence of the valve gasket leaking or from anywhere else. Has anyone else ever seen this and if so, is it something to be concerned about? I figured if it came from an oil change/leak from before it would have surely burned off or evaporated by now. The motor seems to be running good, no oil/coolent/power loss that I have noticed....Thoughts advice?

By the way, I now know why the local shop quoted $250.00 for the plug change!

Thanks

possible valve cover leak maybe?

when you changed them, did you jack it up and go through the fender wells? this is the only way to do it on a 5liter explorer. very very easy when done this way.

Thanks for the reply, Yes I did go thru the fenderwells, theonly real problem was getting the wires un-routed, the wires were still the stock ones. So you think this is not something to worry about?

Bumpty, Bump, Could use some advice!

i dont think its that big of a deal unless its leaking really bad. if you're worried about it, jack it up, pull the inner fender liners, and get under there with a flashlight to see were it is coming from. in all honesty, i would just ignore it if its not that bad. keep a close eye on the oil level.
