 I posted this in a different thread, but never heard anything back, so I thought I would start a new one....

For anyone that has done the cluster switch on an Explorer from a Mountaineer, I was wondering about the 4x4 lights. I have an 02 Explorer with 4 high 4 low, and 4 auto. When it's in 4 high it lights up on the dash. When it's in 4 low that also lights up in the dash. When in 4 auto it isn't. My question is about the Mountaineers... weren't they primarily AWD vehicles, and therefor not going to have the 4 high and 4 low lights on the dash? So, if I put it in 4 high or 4 low, it wouldn't light up.... correct? Not the biggest deal, but something I wondered about. Anyone with any experience on the issue?

I'll bump this as I wondered the same thing....

well..

May be I am reading the question wrong, but in all the explorers I can think of, I never saw an 'auto' light. I just heard it clunk when it started working.

Yeah, maybe I wasn't very clear.... On the Explorer, when you manually put it in 4 high or 4 low, it lights up on the dash to confirm that. Do the Mountaineers do that? The reason I ask is that I thought Mountaineers were primarily AWD vehicles, and therefor you couldn't manually put them in 4 high or 4 low.... as such, they wouldn't have the lights on the dash, at least that's what I assume. If you were to do a switch of clusters from a Mountaineer to an Explorer, would you need to get one from a Mountaineer that wasn't AWD, but had the manually selectable 4 hi, 4 low, and auto? Did those even exist for the Mountaineer? Or, do the Mountaineers have those lights in the cluster already, regardless of the driveline???

Does that make sense or more clear? Sometimes I'm not always the best at conveying what's in my head to paper (or screen....) :)
