Mountaineers can move!

Hey,

I noticed that you have a superchip installed on your Explorer. Did you get a new thermostat or are you using your stock thermostat? How are your reactions since the installation of the superchip on your Explorer?

Thanks.

OK, I have to butt in...

If I had to choose, (and I did) I would choose my MM over an ex anyday. Well, that's what I have so that is why. There are alot of fast explorers and safari explorers but there aren't too many Mountaineers with superchargers and nitrous oxide. The mountaineers were intended for an older audience with that classy grandpa look but I think it looks good. When I first got my MM, I thought there wasn't too much I could do, then I said, "hey, it's an explorer so why can't I do all the mods to it." So I did. About the differences. The front end is pretty much it but most of the Mountaineers that you see are loaded, that is why it seems as though they come with more "goodies" but all the same features are offered in the explorer. Just my thoughts...

And for those of you who think explorers and mm's are not race cars... keep adding mods and you'll see what that truck can really do. Just talk to Alec or Troll or I... I love seeing something different sometimes. Any one of us three can either keep up with the stangs or blow them off the track... or even vipers!

Come on MM owners, let's see some pics!

I would have to agree with LowdPipes ...

I prefer the Mountaineer over an Explorer... I like the front grille and my two-tone toreador red paint. But that's just my opinion.

I'll take some more pics and post them online pretty soon.

I am running the factory thermostat. The Superchips distributer from F150Online recommended that I keep the factory thermostat. My Superchip came with a note stating that some require the use of a lower thermostat. Since there was nothing in the paperwork recommending one, I didn't change. I have considered it though since my Explorer has better acceleration when I first take off before the coolant gets up to operating temperature. Here in Phoenix, having a high output on my heater isn't a high necessity. I may try and find a 180 thermostat when the temperature gets down to a more comfortable temperature (probably November).

I do like what the Superchip did to my SOHC and 5-speed auto. The SOHC likes to rev so having my rev. limiter bumped up to 6500 RPM makes a difference. I had a '94 Ranger with the 4.0L OHV that didn't like revving beyond Ford's stock limit of 5200 RPM. The transmission shifts quicker where you can actually feel the shifts. Downshifting has also been greatly improved. Without my Superchip, it usually took much longer than necessary before my transmisison would get into the proper gear for passing (usually going through 1 or 2 gears before getting there). Now it just downshifts straight to the proper gear without taking a scenic route along the way.
