Recently without making any changes to the USB drive, it has started to cut out for .5-2 seconds, like it is skipping. I have used this same USB drive for the past year and it has been at least 3-4 months since I have added any new music. Does anyone else who listens to mp3 music via USB stick have this issue?

I have used the app to reboot the system and removed/reinserted the drive to no avail. It is very random, but seems to be getting more frequent. For the past year and a half, I never heard it do this.

Any suggestions?

Try testing with another USB drive.

MFT in my Focus has done this since I got it in 2011. It happens after it's been on for 30 to 60 seconds and is always about a half second. It happens on my USB and one my phone connected through USB. Others have confirmed the same on their Focus' MFT. Haven't noticed it on my wifes Explorer, but will pay closer attention now.

I've had this happen exactly as Lewisra described, but not consistently. If it happened every time I'd take to the dealer to have it fixed. I have an iphone 4 that I use as an ipod via the USB. I haven't added music to it, so I have no idea why it would do it.

Also recently it would only play the first 2 songs of an album that it played fine a couple weeks ago.

Just more stuff to add to the list of problems.

SOLVED: USB Music Skipping/Cutting Out

After trying different drives, trying different USB stick formatting, and cleaning my music library, I think I finally figured out what was causing the music to cut out for 1-2 seconds randomly while listening:

I turned off automatic phone book download...

For the first year and a half I had no issues with the music cutting out (Auto download was disabled per the tip from Ford's sync website).

Several months ago I had to re-pair my phone with Sync and it must have defaulted to turning auto download back on.

I turned it off several days ago and have not had a skip or cut out yet!

Hope this helps others. I read several other forums of people with other problems, mainly Bluetooth streaming, I wonder if this would solver their problems...

After long research and contacting the IVT team in Ford, I have found some issues that need to be put out to the public as this is not well know even with the dealerships, seems that Sync MFT can only handle a 4gb memory stick that MUST BE FORMATTED in FAT format. Do not use any other format as that will cause issues with MFT. Also do not leave the USB stick inserted for long periods of time as it causes conflicts within the MFT system. Seems this piece is known in the IVT but not popularized. I had experienced many issues with MFT while I have always left a 16GB USB stick (formatted NTFS) inserted. Always trying to figure them out and many, many MFT resets without resolve. Once I found out about the USB issues and MFT, once I removed the USB stick I had, MFT has been working very, very well also with using a 4gb FAT formatted stick. If Ford would give out these items, many people would not be having issues and trying (with great frustration) to figure them out!
