mp3s wont play but cds are fine- 06explr

recently my 06 explorer's factory h/u started skipping when playing mp3s off of cd's. regualr audio cd's, however, play just fine. no, the cd's are not dirty. yes, i tried cleaning laser lens already but it shouldnt matter anyway since regular audio cd's play perfectly. anyone experience this? radio of course is just fine. i havent screwed with anything so its not something that i did. at first it would skip once per song or so.. after about a week now im lucky if it even plays a song at all. any suggestions would be appreciated. if noone comes up with anything good i guess i will just put in a aftermarket but im trying to save $150 first. thanks.

try using a different type of blank cd. different blank cds have different levels of quality. i forget which one, but the cds that are a whole bunch of different colors, like they might be black, blue, orange, pink. those are crap. i use sony's blank cds cause they're cheap when bought in like packs of 50 or 100. try a different type of blank cd.

thanks, not a bad idea but this is happening all of the sudden to cd's which i have played successfully for the past year and a half. different brands each react the same way from the 5 or 6 which i have tried.
