So Ive got the sound in the flow, the air in the KKM and the tune with SCT. Now I want to dig a little deeper into that sexy 4.6L. Im thinking an ignition would be a good way to do it, and Im looking at the MSD 6AL. I'm told its going to jack up my horsepower enough that I love it and not enough that Im overdoing it, after all this is my street rod, I dont exactly race it for pinks on a weekly basis.

Let me know what you think and if its worth it, or if you know of another part I should think of.

NO.

It's a coil on plug design. Just put better coils on it. I'm running the Granatelli ones for the Mustang. You can pretty much spot weld with them.

So youre saying this thing wont do anything? I dont really understand ignitions.

Please elaborate Andy, I'm interested. I can see that the coils would have a positive effect, but not in just day to day driving. When you stomp on it you may notice a bit less hesitation. I think what we need to keep in mind is that we are dealing with a 4.6L engine here. Did you notice that with the granatelli coils the engine that shows the least amount of improvement is our engine with 11 more horsepower and 8 f/lbs of torque? I love my truck as much a the next guy, maybe even a wee bit more, and I've done a bit of work to it as well, but as much as I dress it up, it still ain't a triton. Keep in mind also, even these 11 added horsepower they claim you will gain are measured under laboratory conditions, by a very biased team of mechanics. Again, not raining on your parade, I just keep looking to spend my $$$ on something I can actually see, or feel. To me, the bigest bang for my buck is the intake (K&N or KKM) and a magaflow exhaust. Oh, and of course, the superchip or SCT.

It's probably less than 2hp difference if you just replace the coils.

Now... If you replace the coils and use a gappable plug and extend the gap, it's a pretty large difference. If you have an intake and exhaust on top of that, it's an even bigger difference. The factory fuel pump is adequate, though. :)

My main concern is ... how much goofin' around can I do under the hood without adversely affecting my warranty, which is good until 150,000km (120,000 miles).

You are supposed to hook the orange and the black wires to the coil. You have 8 coils, not one. You have no spark plug wires.

Well that blows.... I talked to the tech guy from MSD who seemed more than uninthused to be even answering the phone and he told me that I'd have to get a pretty long list of parts to do anything with the ignition, but then I came across this...

MSD 6011

Is this what Im looking for or am I jsut screwed?

Nooooooooooo. That's for carborated engines.
If you're hellbent on doing an ignition upgrade, new coils is about it unless you want to get into the REALLY high dollar stuff.

It doesnt have to be ignition, I just want to find something else to boost performance a bit and I was told that the 6al would be a good choice. Looks like they were dead wrong, so now my search continues I guess. Any suggestions?
