aright, ive got a 93 X EB with 31x10.50s and a 2 inch coil spacers/add-a-leaf lift.
im wondering what i need to do to prep my truck for mudding.
as of now if i go through a mudhole and dirty water/mud came up and splashed everywhere the engine would idle real hard and sometimes die, and would spit dirty water/mud out of the exuast, whats the best way to solve this without something elaborate like a snorkel.
and what else should i do to prep it for the mud

Well, you're running into the same problem that people who cross rivers have...the intake is too low. You're running bad because you're sucking in muddy water which wets the filter and prevents air from getting in. You need to reroute that air intake higher.

drill out the bottom of your air box... so the water can drain out... that way it wont suck it all up in there...

i hope that was a sarcastic answer.... that is a great way to allow more waterflow into the engine.... not good for mudding......

zensius made a homemade snorkel that was cheap and very functional...but it isnt all that pretty ;)

If you like to keep your frame clean, spray it down really good with WD 40, makes it alot easier to clean. Be sure you have tow hooks, 2 straps, come along, shovel, gloves, towels, water, and a partner. I will never go mudding without a partner. That's just some of the basics i go over before i leave, good luck, lets see some pictures!!

jim no actully you are wrong....... you drill out the bottom of your air box... that way its not sucking from down by the headlight.... and if water does happen to get up there it doesnt sit in the box while draining out of the little stock pin hole..... all your doing is providing a larger hole for water to drain..... it would be really hard to get a good constant flow of water directly to the airbox... being there is a plate under it and it sits nearly up by the wheel well.... sit back and think about it... and youll realize im right.
