On a trip to the local ford performance shop i seen about a dozen aftermarket maf housings of various sizes sitting on a shelf, i noticed they had the same physical size sensor bolted on to them as my explorer but they are from 5.0 stangs, now these things were REALLY cheap and i mean like $50.00 with a almost new K&N attached, as i recall the grantinellie maf (73mm?) requires the stock sensor so technicaly if i bought one of these cheapos bolted in my stock sensor i would be saving +/- $350 cdn and gaining a almost new K&N cone filter and larger maf, Now will it work? any one try this before?

I would get it just for the K&N. The gratenellis or whatever dont require a stock sensor. they have a specially calibrated sensor for the MAS. I would assume you would have problems with the mas using a stock sensor... being that it needs to know how much air is passing through... and it doesnt know how big the hole is....
