Does anyone know if the old Motorsport valve covers I had on my 1991 5.0 Mustang will fit on my 97 V8 Explorer? They look pretty darn similar.

Not that anyone really ever looks under my hood, but these things are just lying around, and I'd rather them be on a car than up on a wall in the garage.

Any of the EFI valve covers will fit. The non-EFI will fit also, but you will have a problem with the holes in them for the PCV valve, etc.... :D

Cool, thanks.

Hey, that ride of yours is really trick, how quick is it?
Oh, and my old Saleen shorty headers won't fit, will they? I've heard that the ol' FMS's are the only ones that will.

the saleens wont work, and you heard correct. only thing you can do is either search ebay for a set of FMS explo headers (rare find) or have a set made.

Thanks! I haven't ran it in a while, so I relaly don't know what it will do now. Last time I did, it was out of tune (no chip) and ahd some problems, and it was in the low 15's.

I don't know the Saleen headers off the top of my head, but if they are anything like the FMS shorty Stang headers - then no. The passenger side sticks out towards the firewall and there is no way to bend your exhaust to match. The problems on Explorers with headers have been the firewall and jsut no room to work with. Some guys are trying to fab up some custmo sets, but other than that - you are basically stuck...

Guess my old headers will find their way to ebay soon. Thanks for all the great input.

Now it's time to dust off the ol' valve covers, have a little crack welded up, and throw 'em on. At least the oil change guys will "think" it's a hot rod...
