my 01 sport is sickly.

I got a little problem with my recently purchased 01 sport. The CE light came on the other day and now the truck has a rough idle. The rpm's jump from about 500 to 750 when it is idling under load (unless i keep my foot on the gas and keep the r's up around 750.) Like i said i recently bought this truck with approx. 110k on it and i am confused. wondering if it could be a fuel filter? i have no idea on when the last time it was changed, or if it has been changed at all.

Sounds like you probably have some kind of vacuum leak would be my guess. Do a search for vacuum leak and you should find tons of stuff on it.

ah...it could be the MAF or the idle control or a clogged fuel filter or bad wires/plugs

do a search for those things...there are plenty of threads about rough idle....
