My 1992 Aerostar is becoming hard to start, and I smell gas.

actually....no..... as my ford manual seems to only show one coolant sensor, in the front of the engine., i purchased the coolant sensor, not the coolant sender as labeled by rock auto.......a 92 is obd1, i don't know if it has another one......
if you know of another location, for a 92, please let me know where it is....

to check for a venting issue, crack open the gas cap and see if that makes any difference

i've never noticed any problem with the cap....when i take the gas cap off, there's never any sign of pressure , ..but i will try that.......i'm now thinking that i've got to test the fuel pressure,as suggested before,.... maybe an injector is leaking down, ...right ?.....couldn't that cause a rich start condition after running ?...

ok.........fuel pressure when running is 36psi.....when i dis-connect the vacumn line, it goes to 44 psi.......when i turn the motor off, pressure holds at 36........i observe no leak down.........

now , when i turn the key on, pressure goes to 18 psi....if i turn the key off, then back on, the pressure goes to about 36 psi.......if i turn it off and back on, pressurer goes to about 40 psi.......engine is not running.....book says pressure should be around 35, key on, engine off....
so, this means what ?...........filter ?

Im not saying you have a problem with the cap.

my point is by leaving the cap loose, if the problem is still there you can rule out any venting issue since you have vented the tank with a loosened cap

Im not really sure I would have to look into this more to be of much help.

One thing I would try is when it is acting up, pull a plug and see if its wet.

If it is, you know that its an overfueling issue of some kind, then you can go from there.

If the plug is dry and normal looking then you have to look elsewhere for the problem

try simple things first
