- Various Aerostar is prob
I have this serious problem with my 1993 Aerostar 4.0 . Headlight switch pulled out to full on and then pushed back in to the narrow cutoff point to get the dash lights on.
Air Bag light clashes code 12. It'sfnot the door or key chimer but I get a five chime tone for five times at startup. Shict lever locks up in Park. Sometimes it would release by turning key to run position and holding the pressure off the steering wheel you can take it out of park. Brake lights will not work. Bulbs checked and good. Now in order to get it out of Park you have to disconect the battery and reconnect before you can turn key to run and move lever out of park. Also can hear a very low scratchy noise under the center or right side of insturment pannel. Radio clock is now on and will not go out.
At one time When headlamp switch was pushed all the way in to park the parking instrument lights would come on and would not go out. Ignition key can be turned almost all the way back to off with key but if you stop just short of off the key will come on and ignition switch will work to run and start with no key. The 20 amp fuse that runs the AC Clutch Cruse Control Module, Door Chime off light, and one other thing blew. Replaced fuse and it blew. Replaced fuse and disconnected AC clutch plug. Cruse and door ajar work properly. Moved AC control to on position left and right (assumed that this would have tried to activate the clutch. Clutche is unpluged but fuse blew again.
Mechanic suggested replacing the complete AC Selector switch but I just don't feel that it is the problem. Can't just start replacing switches and modules on a guess. Any body got any idea about what this is all about. I had a '93 Aerostar that that got wiped out by a rear ender. I loved it. Got a chance to buy this one at a good price (I thought)
but it's a killer. Found a Chilton link on line that has several free videos. Can't record them though. I don't know how long this link will be available but I could pass it on to anyone who really needs it. Help is desperately needed. Thought of replacing the clokc spring. No one in my area of the South will touche one. You tube has videos showing how this is done. It appears to me that it could be safely done without too much problem if you have the correct wheel puller. Check it out. Just go to You tune and punch in aerostar clock spring. Thanks
