My 1993 Explorer 4D4WD Eddie Bauer

I feel your pain. I almost took a drill to the pulley so I could use the standard installer but thought better of it. Don't be surprised that once you fix the timing cover leak that the lower intake manifold starts leaking coolant.

Great. Thanks for planting that seed in my brain! And I thought of boring the pulley out as well, but also decided that would be a good way to waste 80 bucks...

When I got this truck I was actually looking forward to working on my car again. My '05 ex is really reliable, and before that I had an 09 f-150 that I had zero problems with. Funny thing is, I've been a chevy guy my whole life, it's just been a streak of good deals that brought me to the fords.

Napa says they have a 100mm long M12-1.5 bolt that I'm going to pick up this evening to give this balancer another shot. Other than that, the guy at autozone mentioned owning an installer that has a through shaft that is used for this balancer, and seemed to know it would work. I'll just have to convince him to loan it to me... I think the bolt idea will work though..

Napa had a M12-1.5 90mm long bolt that had about 30mm inches of threading at the end. It worked to pull the balancer on far enough for the stock bolt to take over. Once I got everything back together, I filled it up with 1.5 gallons of antifreeze and 1 gallon of water along with a little bottle of cooling system treater. I made sure to burp it, and when I test drove it, it was running below the N and the thermostat opened just past the O. No leaks that I could see, but it's raining here so it's a bit tough to spot them even on dry-ish pavement. Only time will tell.

Thanks to everyone who helped out!

So far these repairs are holding up fine, but now it's leaking a little and when I pressure tested it just now, there are bubbles coming from the part of the radiator where the plastic meets the metal. Is this repairable, or should I just get a new radiator?

Also, I've seen a few heater core bypass valves that people have installed on their EX's, but havn't been able to find what I'm looking for. Any help there?

This engine does not like overheating, so I would not wait for a leak to turn into cracked heads. This was posted not long ago on a new radiator. Nice and not at all expensive for a radiator: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=381687&highlight=radiator

And a thread on adding the bypass valve: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190431&highlight=heater+control+bypass

And, the part: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/s...model=Explorer&vi=5005328&year=1994&make=Ford

If you need more help, I would suggest starting a new thread with a task specific title. You will get more views and more help.

Thanks for the help. I just put a new radiator in, changing out the heater core now just because. I'll mess with the bypass later, or maybe not at all from some things I've seen about it.

I thought I changed the thread title, but I guess it only changed the post.
