My 1998 Explorer cranks but doesn't start.

I just bought a 98 Explorer XLT.
Turns over but won't start, acts like it wants to sometimes though.
Changed the spark plugs and coil already still doing it.
Any suggestions??????

yep. That is exactly what mine did. Easy fix. Right on top

What do you thinking about it being the knock or crank sensor??

Have you tried the Inertia cut off switch?

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed your thread, and moved it into the stock 95-01 section. Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key? Do you see a check engine light?

crank postion sensor i had this problem in my 2000 xlt. driving down the road the truck would buck and finally die so i replaced the sensor and never had a problem after that

Do you have fuel? Which engine do you have?

I would start with checking the fuel pressure at the schrader valve on the engine...Plus if you have the SOHC engine the timing chains can become a timing issue that would prevent engine running...

Since you changed the plugs and coil do you have spark? I have seen lots of these trucks not run thanks to lack of fuel due to a clogged fuel filter or a dying fuel pump...Also do you have any codes in the PCM?

How long had the truck been sitting before you bought it? Mine sat for a couple of years and the fuel in the tank had turned into varnish and helped turn the tank into rust...And my changing the filter and even cleaning out the tank only delayed the tank replacement to deal with constant rust in the fuel...

Mine was doing this, I tried everything before I had to ultimately replace the fuel pump. Once I did that it was all good.
