2003 ford explorer
i have a good friend who as a 2003 ford explorer babied and it makes noise when i turn a grinding noise while turning and a whirrrring sound during accel and at speed girnding has gotten worse so i want to try to change the diff oils myself finding ams oil 75w140 was a bit of a pain, and a ford dealer had the friction mod oil but now i need to know how to fill the diifs after drainage also where is the front fill plug behind the front wheel? and if i should remove and clean the covers which from movies on youtube looks like a pain in the ass or should i just have some one qualified to do this

welcome

the front fill plug is on the
front - cover of the diff, rubber plug, no drain, siphon?
rear - fill and drain hole (remove the fill first to make sure you can fill it after draining).

imho-Easiest i found is go to a lube joint or such and they can siphon the old out and fill it for you. . . cost me about $15 an axle if i brought my own oil in. A lot easier then messing with the front, even though the rear is easy might as well do it while your there, plus they dispose of the old stuff.
