I have been contemplating what to do for an exhaust on my Ex for a while not, and I've got the cash set aside to do, so lately I've been laying everything out. I got a '97 Sport SOHC...
Anyways, my orininal plan was to go with a Flowmaster Delta 50, cause I want to stay fairly quiet. I had it in a shop today on a lift to lay out plans and get a cost together. The shop isn't recommending the flowmaster for this set-up. They said they've done several Explorers before, and are recommending I go with a Magnaflow.
Now not wanting to be like everybody and their brother around here and get duals going staigh out the back, I opted for duals, exiting right behind each rear flare, on an angle. The shop helped me with choices of tips, as well as other options. Looking at the dual inlet set-up up front (SOHC) they are opting to use not one, but two Magnaflow mufflers, one coming off each downpipe with a support between them to keep them solid. I would end up with "true duals" going with 2 1/4" piping on each side. It's going to be a task to route back by the tire, but they are confident that it will be doable. This shop puts lifetime warranties on their work, for welds mufflers and things like that....it'll also be mandrel bent.
What do you think? It'll bascially exit each side behind the rear flare at a 45 degree angle and have a 7.5" long 3" diameter double walled tip on each end, angle cut. The angle will be similar to what the Gibson sideswept exhaust that are made for the ranger look like. I had that on my ranger and liked it a lot.
Damn having a SOHC in a two door.
Nobody makes anything for me.
