i was driving home from school yesterday going ~70 and all of the sudden, i put my foot down and nothing. then all my accesory lights came on (i.e.: the dash lights for seat belt and stuff like that.) i pulled onto the shoulder and got out and walked around my truck (this was just instinct i guess, heh.) i got back in and tried to start it up and it started right up and i drove home.

this may be related to a problem i had about a month ago where my truck would sporadically not start (this only happened twice though.)

im scared to death that they wont find anything, and this summer i have to do a lot of long trips (most are 100-200 miles.) when i took my truck in 3 weeks ago for the start problem, they didnt find anything and luckily it hasnt happened again.

im taking my truck to ford on monday. anyone have any suggestions for me to mention to them?...the service writer on the phone sounded like he never heard of this before, but he sounded pretty confident that theyll find something, he said theres very few cars they work on that they dont find anything.

thanks.

tbaum i talked to you before, thats crazy good thing you didnt get hit and got off the road

If you still have your Superchip in, take it out and put it back in using duct tape. The first time I put my Superchip in, I used electrical tape to hold it on. The heat under the hood caused the tape to get all gummy and liquidy. When I pulled my PCM out, my Superchip was half off. I didn't know if it got caught on something when I pulled it out or if it fell off while it was installed. I did notice that the tape was not holding the Superchip on very well since it was very hot. I put my Superchip back on with duct tape and haven't had it stall on the freeway since (almost a year now).

robert, that was the first thing i thought of = the superchip. when i checked it today, it was in there all the way (when i first installed it, i put it in with packing tape, yanno the clear plastic packing tape?...like really wide scotch tape but a lil stronger.) so i decided that since im taking it to ford, i should just take out the chip entirely, at least until i get back from them. i dont want them to say that the chip was the problem and it ruined the computer or something and void my warranty on the computer, i cant afford to be out $500 or whatever a new computer costs. if all goes well, ill leave the chip out for a while, possibly forever.

robert, are you saying that you had this same problem?...engine shutting off while you were driving? it would make me feel much better if i knew of someone else this happened to.

thanks.

the verdict is in! i just got my truck back. they found that it was part of the cam chain guide recall. the lower intake gasket was shot and was leaking, causing a vacuum leak, causing me to stall out and not start once in a while. they replaced it and now it runs great. and im also happy to say the superchip is sitting pretty back in the business end of my computer :)

that's cool, i'm glad to hear it wasnt the chip. i am thinking about getting one, and i dont want any problems from it.

leenjen,

well, even if it was the chip, i would still recommend a superchip for anyone interested. it is such an unbelieveable mod (and obviously my favorite so far.) for about 200 bucks, you get a hell of a lot of improvement. people do have problems with them, but they are few and far between. good luck with your install!
