I have a 1997 explorer with a 5.0 and awd. It has a very rough idle and jerks when the rpms is below 2,000. At idle it surges from 4 or 500 rpms to 8 or 900 rpms. I have replaced the iac motor, egr, egr back pressure sensor, cam sync., cam position sensor, egr regulator. I have new plugs, wires, fuel filter and I cleaned maf sensor. My mpg used to be around 16 to 17. Now it is around 9 or 10. I have code that says left bank is running lean. I can use any tips I can get right now. thanks

Sounds like an O2 sensor is going or has gone out? Have they ever been replaced. I think there are 2 sensors per bank for a total of 4 of them.

or...you could have a bad MAF. much cheaper to replace than o2 sensors and can throw the same code. other issue is it might be intake gaskets. still cheaper than O2 sensors

I checked for vacuum leaks but came up empty. The O2 sensors are original. The engine code only comes up if I do a lot of city driving.
