I installed my PA #853 this weekend and it went very smooth!! and looks great!!
I only had a couple of tough areas, 1 was the drivers side body mount in the engine compartment, which was the only bolt I used an impact wrench on, and finding 2 bolts short enough for the body (160mm), which I was unable to locate so until I do I just used a big stack of washers on longer bolts. My biggest fear was the front bumper, but it ended up being pretty easy. I was able to use the 2 brackets that came with the kit. I mounted each bracket to the outside hole of the bumber mount and then removed the bottom inside bolt from the bumper bracket drilled it out and used it as a second mounting location ( sorry my camera is broken), so I ended up having 4 bolts in the front and more than enough adjusting room both up and side to side. I did have to remove the plastic spoiler and driving lights,( I was able to make a few cuts to the spoiler to make it fit) and I will have to trim the driving light brackets to get them back on, but first I need to go somewhere to get about an inch cut off the lower outside bracket on each side so my driving lights will fit. It took me about 3 hours to complete the front bumper. The rear bumper was a breeze. I used the brackets from the kit and flattened them out with a small sledge hammer drilled 3 new holes in them used the existing bolts and holes in the frame and in about an hour had it back on. All I need to do is get about 2-3 inches cut off the bottom of the PA brackets that stick out below the bumper. Sorry I don't have any pictures my camera is broken right now, but when I get it fixed I plan on taking the bumpers off and taking pictures of the brackets.
The whole thing was fairly simple to do and I am by no means a qualified mechanic nor have I or my friend that helped me ever done a lift before. I borrowed an air compressor and an impact wrench, but only used it once and I used the torch only once on the same bolt I used the the impact on. I do reccomend having a good 1/2" drive break loose handle and sockets, a really good 1/2" drill bit with a good drill. I also used 2 jacks on the body 1 behind the front wheel and 1 in front of the rear wheel both with a lot of wood blocks. I tried to include as much info as possible, but I am at work and have had many things to do, so I will try to answer any questions it may just take me a little time.
I also enjoyed doing the lift !

Lucky you. My lift STILL isn't done, and I've been working on it for a few weeks! I ran into a buttload of problems, mainly the radiator drop down brackets. I've only got the rear bumper to do now, so I'm almost done.

Looks pretty good with the lift doesn't it? :)

It looks great! My wife came into the garage and said
" have you done anything yet it looks the same".

What kind of problem did you have with the radiator?

Nice, how long did it take you to complete, minus the bumpers? I have this on my calendar for 09 December, but i am going with the 2" bl.

The metal A/C line on the driver's side was in the way. I had to take the bracket on it loose, bend the line, the reinstall the bracker lower down on the condensor. A major BE-@TCH, but it worked.

The lift alone took about 10-11 hours with 2 breaks to eat.
We took our time I was concearned about break lines and wiring so with every crank of the jack I was checking all of them.

I did mine 2 weeks ago.
I used the factory bolts from the very back.
These bolts fit just perfect for the one that go behind the front seats.
They went right through the lift kit spacers and bolted right to the factory bushing.

modifications to the PA#853 kit???

:chug:
hey C JEFF

do you think you can post a good list as to what mods you had to do to the brackets, bolts, or anything else for the PA-#853 kit. Because I really don't wanna have to order the PA-#883 kit and have to replace the steering extension. It would be alot easier to just go to 4WheelParts and pick up the kit than have to special order it. So can you please list the mods you had to do. I wouldn't think it would be that hard considering its only the brackets you had to screw with.

Also, when you did your body lift were their 10 body mounts or only 9??? Cuz I looked under mine and I could only find 9 I'm haveing trouble locating the 10th one.

Thanx for all the help.

:chug:

there should be 10 body mount bolts, 5 on the drivers, and 5 on the passengers. They are located exactly in the same spot on both the drivers and passenger side, did you look for 'em under the truck? If so did you see the one above the gas tank?

Hey Yomie do you have the part # for the 2" lift?
I'm still trying to decide on 2" or 3". If 33X10.5s will fit with 2" that's what I'll do.

pt # 792, it is for the 91-94 explorer, you will have to get new bolts and bumper brackets for a 00 ranger, it is sitting in my truck right now, i have the new bolts(i just took out the old ones, and got new ones 2" longer) i am just waiting for time to put it on, i am going the 33X10.5 route also

Thanks.
Keep us posted on how it turns out. I'm hoping to be on 33s by Jan. for Truckhaven.

When I get my digital camera fixed I plan on taking the bumpers off and taking pictures of the brackets which will be more understandable than me trying to explain it.
I will need help posting the pictures though.
