Well....for Christmas I received 4 Kenwood 3-way 6X8's to replace my factory speakers. Also received 4 adaptors so I wouldn't have to cut the factory harness and 4 Boom Mat speaker baffles. So...I installed everything and the sound wasn't what I expected....the factory speakes actually had more bass. So....after doing some research I found the speaker adaptor wires were wrong...they had the positive signal from the factory harness going to the negative on the speaker and the negative signal going to the positive on the speaker. I had to disassemble all 4 adaptors and switch the wires around. Then tried it again...sounded a little better but still not as much bass as the factory speakers. So...next I removes the Boom Mat speaker baffles and presto.....good sound. The only thing I can think of is the speakers use the air space in the door to help produce the bass and the baffles were causing that not to happen. Would this be a correct assumption? My next plan includes a custom box with a RF (Rockford Fosgate) Punch 3 shallow sub mounted under my right rear seat and RF amp mounted under my right front seat. The amp has a remote for the bass level that I'm going to have them install in my center console so everything is hidden. Everything is running off of a factory 6CD head unit with Sirius Sportster 5 sat radio added on though aux inputs. My plan is to get a decent sounding system that appears all stock......so....what do you all think?

What CD6 do you have? Audiophile or Premium or Base unit? Does it have the Sub Connector? (3 plugs?) Are the plugs on the radio black or grey?

I had the similar problem when i plugged in some polks. Lost a lot of bass and had to turn the bass on the radio all the way up for it to sound ok.

That amp is at best 50watts a channel, not very strong, and was calibrated for those 'cheap' speakers. That door air space is somewhat an 'enclosure'. . .although poor it does help.

In the long run i wound up filling in the bass with a stock enclosure aftermarket 10" sub/amp combo. It sounds pretty good and is hidden. I had a post on it,. . .

Well....the head unit I have is the stock CD6 without audiophile (no sub). right not the new enwood 6X8's are powered off of it. I believe the RF amp they're going to install when I get it and the sub put in is roughly 300 watts. So I'm hoping everything will sound good when I'm done.

with the stock CD6 (i think you have the Premium sound) will put out bass signals on all 4 speakers. . . with audiophile its cut off at 150hz for the doors. You should be all set . .
