I have looked around on this forum for a few months, but just joined today.
I can see its a great place to be and a good source for information.

also I love my Explorer.
sadly its broken at this time, and does seem beyond my ability.

where is the correct place for me to request help for my 91 ignition cylinder/mechanism or steering column?

I looked around but cant find any threads on the exact subject.

glad to now be a member here :salute:

Whats up with your ex?

I drove home and the ignition was locked up.
would not turn backward to the off position.

at first I thought it was the lock cylinder.
removing that leaves the mechanism still locked up.
cant move anything with a straight screwdriver.

I do think its up in the steering column and
not in the ignition switch/linkage lower down.

There is a "ignition switch and "actuator rod" underneath the steering column. I do not know if this is related to your particular problem or not, but in the older fords the actuator rod sometimes becomes dislodged and can bind things up in there. IDK, just trying to help. Maybe search these two items and see what comes up in the forums?

Welcome, and good luck finding the problem. There is plenty of information on here, hopefully you can get it fixed and save the money a shop would charge.

I have had my '93s steering lock in a position where it was VERY hard to unlock. I had to pull on the wheel as hard as I could to unbind the mechanism.

I wonder if this is a common ford issue. It took two of us and about 5 or 6 minutes to get the key turned in my buddies 2006 f150 because of the steering lock.

thanks for all the replies so far.

does anyone have a link to a Haynes manual page(s) for disassembling the column?
I have absolutely lost mine...unbelievable

what I have learned is there is a small gear behind the lock cylinder that moves a lever actuator connected to the linkage which moves the ignition switch

I cant figure out how to remove it.
I think mine may be broken, but at $62 dollars I wont be buying a new one.

can anyone tell me should I remove the column or just drop it down onto the seat?
