Received my new toy a obd1 tester for the ford family. I was trying to syfer those codes. I first received flashes 1-2--1-3 I went to the book to figure things out but you must do 4 test key on engine off key on engine on air sencer disconnected engine on test 3 engine on test 4. So it was a little overwhelming trying to do these test to see if I did it right. Then since I have a 94 book said I might have a 3 code instead of 2 code which change what I thought I saw. This dam computer in cars driving me nuts. Give me simple carb and distribor. I'm thinking of plugs wires and cap rotor does this beast have such stuff or is it a bear and pay someone to do it

Well after reading posting the answers to my posting of my obd1 reader and finding out they make a reader I bought a reader instead of looking at blinking lights. So now I have 2 readers a blinker and a number readout. The number readout was cheaper at $24.00 @ jeads?. My blinker was $42.00

Just got mine in the mail! No time to use it yet. Been doing mowing, trimming, and troubleshooting my gas range. BUMMER! But that was fast shipping! don-ohio (:^)

The 3.0L had a cap & rotor until the 1996 model came out (OBD-II computer system). The 4.0L in all models has distributorless ignition without a cap & rotor.

Does the Aerostar 4.0 have the cam synchronizer like the Ex 4.0's have?
If so, is it any easier to get to? I bet not. :) :aerostar:  :exp:

Aerostars have a different upper intake manifold, though, am I correct on that?

Identical intakes. Same motor in a smaller engine bay. The oil filter adapter and exhaust manifolds are different though.

I've been sick, missed 3 nights work. Itching to try my new code reader, but I must have the flu or something. don-ohio (:^)

you could use the time to read the complicated manual.

I actually have read some......

you could use the time to read the complicated manual.

Did read it some......but reading with the mother of all headaches was very hard to do. don-ohio (:^)

How is the Explorer's 4.0L intake manifold different than the one on the Aerostar's 4.0L engine? Both are mounted in the position for a RWD engine.

I don't know, that is why I was asking the question. I was once told that the intake mani's are different. I see now that they are the same.

Ah EXHAUST manifolds. That must have been what they meant. Thanks
I appreciate the Aerostar insight.
