No one said the number was Private. Of course they aren't private. It was to protect the owner's Privacy. If someone wants to track something down they usually can by various means but there is no need to help them. If they want your Explorer or other things, at least make them work for it.It's about as private as numbers on your mailbox are private. There's nothing private about a license plate, especially bright yellow and black NJ ones that everybodyyyyyyyyyy on the road sees. You're better off not posting your location or any pics in front of your house if you're afraid of privacy. Or putting NJ in your screen name itself. Those reveal more than a license plate number to the masses.
Even the VIN# isn't a private number, they're exposed on the windshield of every single vehicle out there.
You guys want to get carried away on privacy, better update your location to remove Jersey City, or Ottawa Canada, and update your sigs to not describe every other vehicle parked in your driveway. Didn't think that far huh? lol I know you live in Jersey City, Zip code 07310, drive a 2O11 LTD GOLDEN BRONZE Explorer with 302apkg and a 36 month lease at 523.00 per month , your wife drives a bmw 330i with 35% tint up front, and if I spent more than 15 seconds looking at all the info you put in your own user profile, I could post up even more info that tells someone more about you, that you posted your own self, than what a license plate tells anyone.
Just putting things in perspective a little lol. If you're worried about privacy, watch what you post that nobody else would know about unless you posted it yourself, and don't worry so much about the giant letters on a metal plate that is mounted to your vehicle everywhere you drive on public roads.![]()

That's exactly the kind of attitude a few members of our society welcome and why some members of the national police force I retired from will always have a job.I've put pics of my cars and my guns on the net for years. Take off the tinfoil hats people.
Exercising my 1st and 2nd Amendment right means I have an attitude? It's not news to me that law enforcement may be monitering internet gun forums. That's exactly the kind of attitude a few members of our society welcome and why some members of the national police force I retired from will always have a job.

While that may be true, my post had absolutely nothing to do with guns. I was merely stating that too much information is commonly made available on the Internet, some of it unintentionally. While it is true that some of that same info may be attainable by other means, I and some other members don't feel that we have to share or make it freely available here. That is all. Nothing more. Anyone is free to post whatever info they wish, but keep in mind that there are some that may and occasionally do use it for questionable means, so to speak. BTW, we are waaay off topic.Peter is a Canuck. They have a, well, different attitude towards guns....
