ok i was lookin at the ford raceing catalog and was lookin at the crate engines in it. i saw alot of 302s all with the same size block just different heads. one jumped out at me. it was a 302 that pushes out 345hp. man if i put that in my X ill be smokein my freinds mustang. the only bad part is i would have to get new everything else too. transmission, water pump, radiator, air intake, headers, exhuast, fuel injection, throttle body, mass air sensor, have to get the computer reprogrammed...etc.
but it would be worth it. with the 345 engine and the mods i would get it up to460hp. then i know id kill myself. tap the gas and flip over. only thing i need to find out for sure is if the engine compartment is big enough. if it is then i might have to start saveing my money.

302 Swap

Engine compartment is large enough except for the heater box gets in the way, minor fix.
Once you have decided on the engine, go to the local salvage yard and find a late model mass air mustang ('88-'93) and buy the engine harness and the computer control harness w/ computer. Clean it up and and lay it in place. It may need a little TLC but it should work out well. Also the computer from the Stang will work too. I do not believe that the waterpump will require changing unless you go to the Mountaineer version of the front pullies and brackets.
You will need new mounts, exhaust headers, oil filter relocation kit and a raditor that hooks up to the 302. The explorer radiator seems to work for a few of my friends but I used an Advanced Adapters version, but I still run a little hot.
Consider just how much HP you really need, once on the trails HP become a mute point gearing and low end power is where it is at. Too much HP and you break things really fast of course you need some. After you decide just what you want the vehicle to do then you can decide just how much HP is needed.

God Luck on which ever engine/HP you choose.

thanx =)

hey thanks for your advice man.
and actually im not going to be on the trails, ill be at sears point most of the time. my goal is to have an explorer that will smoke a stock cobra. (wishful thinking i know) but still its my goal. the only thing i have to find out is if it will pass california smog regulations =X
but ill figure something out.
