with front or rear rotor on explorers (not all cars, but explorers) you get a big hammer (BFH is the technical term) and hit at the center part of the hub, or as close to it as possible... spray in some wd-40 if you have it....
Guess I need a BFH then... I won't damage anything else if I don't hit the studs right? This tactic seems kind of scary, but it is rusted on pretty good. Thanks for the info guys.
Don't hit the studs I think that will drive them out, or damage the threads, you want to hit the hub itself. One big hammer with a dose of attitude ought to do it.
Had the exact same problem with my 98 EB. I used a BHF, hitting the hub between the studs in a star pattern and they popped off after 15 - 20 good hits with a 5 lb. sledge.
BTW, you may want to protect your studs with a rubber hose on each.(I messed up one of mine when I missed
