Found this site too late for my first explorer........ Well probably not from a financial point. Had the first one for 10 months, sold it 3 weeks before mot ran out as it had a few problems

Corroded filler neck, so bad it was completely away from cap end
This in turn allowed water into tank
Drained easily
No handbrake
Front and rear pads very low
Rusty rear bumper
Handbrake gator (sp)busted
2 tyres close to failing
Poor starter
Didn't rev over 3000 rpm
And stuck in 4x4 high permanently

Other than the estimated £500 parts and a good weeks work, the car was great even with these faults, i did over 10k miles in the 10 months I had it.

This site could have helped with many of these issues.

Sold on to a trader for £750 not too shabby a deal and the truck owed me nothing after the fun I had in the now over the winter.

So much fun that I today took ownership of no2. A 1999 4.0 sohc auto 5 door 90kmiles, black over graphite, big polished alloys. Affraid the pin stripe will have to go though.

Hopefully another good snowy winter this year as I am now working shifts and will probably be out clearing the snow for the snow ploughs.

This one is well tried and tested and at only a few hundred more £'s than no1 I am happy.

Full rev range and all 4x4 working as it should, 2 new gyres and amazing interior and exterior.

Only probs are (still to search the site)

I think the air suspension has a fault as a wee light, top right of dash showing a wee explorer in orange with a line though it and what looks like shockabsorbers on it.

Abs pumps when coming to a stop, no1 did this too
Cruise doesn't work not going on at all
Stereo screen blank (7inch dvd sat nav reverse camera ipod thingy in garage somewhere)
Rear tints (no1 had them and I liked)
Slight vibration in steering at slow speeds

My plans for upgrades are
the stereo
the pin stripe removal
tinted rear glass
tidy the alloys
possibly fit LPG

I am a good DIY mechanic and just took ownership of a 4 post ramp and it is sitting in the garage waiting to have the 3 phase invertor wired up when I get time next week or the one after.

I look forward to chatting soon.

Thanks scothgitt

That's what I like to hear! I am just itching for it to snow so I can go out and have some fun. Especially with 4wd. I'm very new here as well, but welcome to the forum X)
