A couple days ago when i was going up on the freeway, i had a Saab turbo close to my bumper, so i figured what the hell! and floored it, man  that SOHC just roared like a bat out of hell, it revved to 5600 rpm or so on every gear, and went in to 5 gear at 85-90 mph before i even got on the freeway. It was uphill all the way, and at the top i had 100-110mph that Turbo must have thougt "what the..." and he went after me.. in slope after i looked in the mirror and he was still after me but not that close and then i looked at my speedo... IT HAD WENT PAST MY LAST NUMBERS!! 125mph   no wonder my X was a bit "sensitive" on the steering wheel... :D
I know i was stupid but what can i say i had to do it..

You're a maniac, but i bet it was fun. excellent kill if you want to call it a race !

sweeet! gotta top out your vehicle atleast once, to know how fast it goes. Did the saab keep up at 125?

The highest I have ever dared is 115. You have a lot of guts my friend, congratulations :D

I remember one time I was testing the 0-60 in the X, and I decided since the road was empty, why not try 0-100? As I neared I guess it was about 70-75 MPH, the 5R decided to downshift back into 2nd gear and the entire trunk lurched backwards, and the tach shot past the 6K mark to my guess is about 8K, and holy mother of god did that truck take off like a rocket. If you have never heard an SOHC past 6K, or even at 6K, you have not heard a true V-6 yet

This was about 6 months ago, and she is still running strong. No chain tensioner failures on this motor :p I do not know why the transmissions downshifted like that. I thought there was a limiter at 6K, but I swear this happened, and freaked me out!

I've never topped out, but I did once reach the "O" for overdrive, remember 1st gens only go up to 85 mph  I don't know how fast that would be... but it was fun:p

Cool kill, wish the OHV had more guts at higher speeds. I've gotten mine to 115 but would rather not do speeds like that in an X. Too scary at speed for me, suspension is not buttoned down enough.

Majisto,
That sounds like something similar to what I did, not to the X but to my old '86 Pontiac 6000-STE. I was gunning it to get on the highway and had floored it from a dead stop and held it. After bit I realized that I never felt it shift into 2nd or 3rd, look down and see the 7000rpm tach pegged (red is 6000)! scared the crap out of me as I was imagining having to rebuild that 2.8 V-6 again. get to where I was going, get out and listen and it was quiet as a mouse. GM OHV V-6s have an interesting growl above 6000rpm.

Great now I gota go on the freeway from blaine to washington to see where my truck stops at.

Canadian freeways suck, and washington has a higher speed limit.

My 99 SOHC tops out at 110. When I hit that, I lose all power until it drops down to about 100-105.

There's a safety recall to lower the speed govenor so you can't go faster than firestones can handle (I think it's around 90). I laughed uncontrollably when they asked me if I wanted them to apply it. The service guy said "yeah... I get that a lot."

Topped out my 93 at 184km/h(anyone want to convert that to MPH for me?), it was funny too becuase the stretch of road I did it on ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS has cops but the road like literally cleared for me(4 lanes:D ) so I was like "hell it must be a sign from god..." So i nailed it and kept it pinned. by the time i hit 160 is started to slow down and finally stopped at 184.
In my defense it wasnt my fault, we were on the way to our high school drags out at the racetrack and I was soo anxious to see the Drag cars run:D

on a closed coarse straightaway, i've taken my X up to 116 mph...then i had some serious shaking going on and the X just wouldn't budge any more than that.

-=bmacd=-

Well i guess that the Saab turbo could have past me if he had put an effort to it, but i just think he was checking how fast i could go..but in my eyes it was a kill:D The Saab was a bit riced up to, so it was fun...

The scary part was that my X showed no sign to stop accel, so i think it can do more but how much? well i dont know, the speedo stops at 200km/h~125mph (it was a bit of a downhill... but i guess when i talk about it more its gonna be an uphill race eventually ;) )

Maybe if i lower it, new rims and tires an extra speedo!........NA! too Ricy :D

mine do's a 180kph flat out its really scarry soon as that needle hits 180 the fuel pump shuts down scarred the hell out of me .i wanted to get brian at apten to make me a chip but he said he cant so thats the fastest it can go

My friend goes home from school the same way as I do, so one day on the nice newly paved road we decided to speed up. He has a 86 suburban, I have a 98 X Sport.
I sped up to try and pass him (i needed to turn at the next light), he sped up, so I put the pedal to the metal (I was in overdive and I need to bump it down to 4th for more power). Once it shifted down to 4th I easily got around him, but I dunno how fast I was goin....couldnt take my eyes off the road and his big a$$ suburban.

The next day at school he said he was doin 95. I flew past him hella fast so I guess I was doin about 110mph.

I know I am stupid...but the road was so new and smooth and no one was around......good thing there were no cops, it was 35mph speed limit!

My X seemed to handle it pretty well, no signs of slowing down...I have an OHV...does it sound different then the SOHC? Whats the difference?
