My 2002 ford explorer has no bass. I purchased it about 2 weeks ago. The speaker quality is great but it has too much treble and seriously my laptop has more bass than my car. I figured out that my Sub isnt making any sound at all. is there a quick fix or do I just need to bring it to a professional? And if there is, how exactly do you you get the panel off.

does it have a aftermarket stereo or the stock ford stereo

Welcome to the forum

I know this is a dumb question, but have you double checked the settings on the stereo to make sure that the bass is at least midline if not up all the way? On basic radio, my stereo doesn't put out a ton of bass even with it turned all the way up...on disc though, bass is pretty good.

If you haven't already, double check those settings, bass and treble.

Yes I tried that. My bass is all the way up and my treble is all the way down. I am replying on my phone so please excuse me if this comes out strange. ;) the cd player is the same as the radio (basswise) and it is a factory stero (as far as I know) I know the cd player is a standard 6disc cd changer.

To remove the trim around the radio, you need to basically pry it off...you can do it by hand, but most suggest using something like a butter knife to get it loose. Once you get it coming out, disconnect anything you can on it to gain some space. Two screws at the bottom of the radio and it comes out. Double check the connections back there. Also, have you checked the connections at the sub itself?

pull the radio does it have 3 connectors in back with pins? Sounds like you got an Audiophile that relies on a subwoofer. . .that means 3 connectors in back of the radio.
If it is Audiophile then the 4 spearkers act like high/mids only, while the sub gets the lows.

Also post the model number of the radio, might be the wrong one, previous may have been stolen or something. . ????

Thanks!!

I got it. One of the 3 plugs wasnt plugged in. Now it sounds pretty good for a factory. Thanks for the help. Now if I can just get my rear end fixed in it ill be set. and also, what kind of gas mileage do you guys get. Mine is a V8 but according to the mileage it shows i only get about 14-15. I am hoping that it is wrong but i havent thought to check it with math yet.

JonWesley,

I got a V6 Mountaineer and I get roughly 13-15 city and 17-19 highway. I don't beat it to death but I'm not grandma'ing my truck either.

Glad you got your sub working, for a factory system it does sound pretty good and I've even got my rearview mirror to rattle from the factory sub.

thats about right, i just took a trip only where i only pulled over 3 times and got 18mpg, on cruise usually 74mph, over several weeks its about 14mpg with city traffic.
