My time just ran out

At 165,000 miles, and since the engine is coming out it looks like I might as well replace/upgrade all of the chain tensioners, IAC, oil pump, gaskets, and who knows what else, I'd hate to do just the timing chain stuff and have something else go out soon after I put it back in.

What miles do people usually get after such work?

Wheres a good place to get all of these parts; anyone other than a dealership?

Are there Ford crate SOHV engines around?

This could the end of the Mounty in our family.

Thanks

I pulled the engine out Friday, WOW, what a PITA. I've never used so many socket extensions just to undo a bell-housing bolt; my Mounty is a 4x4.

I need help! I'm ready to pull the front timing cover and can't find any timing marks on the crank pulley. Chiltons is no help. Where are these "marks"? A pic would help.
Thanks

Edit: I know I'm close because I was watching the cam lobes and "felt" the piston come up with a tool. So do have to call this close enough then pull the pulley and perfect the alignment with the front cover off?

TDC on balancer

Look for a "10" followed by a vertical line indicating 10 deg BTDC and then another line followed by a 0. The line indicates TDC.

Thanks Rod, took me a while but I found the marks. Had to weld some metric bolts together from the hardware store to make them long enough to pull the pulley.

All front chain tensioners look functional so now am considering my options since rear tensioner is toast. I'd hate to just do the back only to have the front(s) go out in a month.

I found a 2000 engine I'm strongly considering. It's already out and complete, from an X that rolled onto it's side, with only 50k on it for $700. Do you think that's reasonable if it's oil, tensioners, chains, intake, sparkplugs look good it.

Yes, I'll have to take a good look into it for sure. It's from a salvage yard, owner said it's been there for about six months. Said he drove it into the shop to pull the trans & engine and that it ran good, of course.

Being it's out of the rig I have my doubts; even if the body is still there, there's probably no way to verify the engine came from it, is there?

Figured I'd pull the covers & plugs for a good look and turn it over by hand. Otherwise?

VIN location

The last 8 digits of the VIN are stamped on the driver side rear of the V6 block just below the head. If they don't match the VIN on the body then you know it's not the original engine and 50K miles is too soon for an engine replacement. See VIN location

That looks like the radio noise suppressor (capacitor) that connects to the ignition coil pack connector.

Y ends of the vacuum hose connect to the underside of the upper intake manifold. See photo below.

Got them, thanks!

Oh, and the ground strap hanging from the wiper motor on the firewall, I suppose that goes on the starter or somewhere under there-that'll take a whole dictionary of swear words to get installed.
