Well I noticed my explorer left side tire was leaning too much, and making a little noise, so i just need to driv eit today to school b/c i have an interview after school and I need acar.. i get my new one thurs or weds. Well im trying to sell the old one.. I start driving up my street and all of a sudden I see the entire hub fly off the car up into my neighbors yard, the metal piece had broken off of it and made it look like the shape of a cup, it broke all of that metal. Then, I was turning around to take the car home, and i feel the car keep getting lower, and its going up and down alot... i get out to look... im like 50 yards from my house, and i see that the only thing holding the car up is the axle itself leaning on the wheel.... a bunch of metal pieces had fallen out by then.. so i proceed to get out, get a jackstand from my house, and put it on a jackstand and go to school .. and my dad got it towed off... the whole end assembly came apart, with the brakes, tire and rim still together only attached to the car by a brake line. if i was going down the highway and that happened I could have easily flipped and died... damn.

Glad to hear you are alright

Thats scary man:(

Glad you're ok.

Next time you think something bad happened, STOP!

whats the price damage on the ex:(

well i saved it before the axle fell off the rim and hit the ground and bent, so i did save some $$ there... I want to know what caused this crap though man it was scary as hell.

the damage.. the guy is gonna get my parts in the j-yard because im trying to sell it, and he said he can get parts for like $375-400. but labor too. but with new **** just parts is like a grand

my dad said the tow truck man had an ass of a time getting the explorer on there... i dont think he had seen this before.

375-400 seems kind of hi for parts. Ive picked up complet axles for 100-300 bucks. I bet what happened was the wheelbearings got loose and teh nuts backed off causeing the wheelbearings to get loose and messed up and then everything took a crap from there. Hope it gets all fixed for ya.

Same exact thing happended except in my 96....going about 40...i almost flipped and ended up in a ditch, after completely stopped I see my 33" tire fly by and plow through a fence!!!! The front axle shaft blew and the spindle lock nut backed of and just like you the rotor and everything was still attached. That is wierd...I was just driving up to a softball game and after the game I was going on a 250 mile road trip.....LUCKY! Alot more damage for mine though....3,300 worth...new quarter panels and front end, rim, damage along the side where tire and rim rubbed and to make it all worse...they didnt match the paint. I just wish I would have known about perrys fenders then, I would of had them just put those on at the time. Oh well!!!

That happened to me in my 1996 S-10. Both of the left Balljoints went going down a dirt road at like 35. SCARY as hell. I thought i was dead. I lost steering and it dragged itself into a ditch. Warranty fixed it that time. When they did a crappy job of fixing it and it happened again, there wasnt enough truck to fix. An oak tree made sure of that. Chevy cant make good cars, but they make DAMN good air bags.
